Cincinnati Road TripsThe New Year is fast upon us and everyone you talk to seems to be making some kind of resolution. You yourself might be making some resolutions as well. One resolution that is easy to make and always satisfying is to encourage yourself to go out do different and interesting things. The Cincinnati area is full of fun and fantastic day trip locations.

 

1. Yellow Spring Ohio

 

Yellow Spring is just a short car ride away. One hour from the city of Cincinnati, this town is an ideal location for day trippers, especially those who have a taste for craft beer. The Yellow Springs Brewery has been serving delicious pints for years. You can also hit the nature trails and farms for fresh produce.

 

2. Clifton Heights

 

If a fun and hip commercial district full of shops, bars, and hookah sounds fun to you, you need to head to Clifton Heights. You can spend the day bouncing from boutique to boutique and stopping at some delicious cafes for lunch or a drink.

 

3. Lebanon

 

Lebanon is a nice little town just twenty-five miles north of the city. The small town feel offers a much needed break from the stress of big city life. You can grab a nice lunch and do some serious antiquing in this charming town.

 

4. Camp Dennison

 

History buffs will love a visit to the Camp Dennison Civil War monument.  The small monument pays tribute to the many civil war soldiers that were trained at Camp Dennison during the course of the war. Camp Dennison was also used as a hospital to treat wounded Union soldiers.

 

5. Hocking Hills

 

Hocking Hills is home to some of the most beautiful nature trails and parks in all of Ohio. Nature lovers could spend hours walking the various trails and visiting all of the parks to be found in Hocking Hills. Pack a picnic lunch and make a day of it.

 

6. Nashville, IN

 

Small Nashville, Indiana may not be as large as the Nashville in Tennessee, but it’s still an excellent place to visit. This small community is centered around the arts and is full of shops and kiosks run by local artists.

 

7. Henke Winery

 

You don’t have to go far to enjoy a lovely day at a winery. Henke Winery is a wonderful little spot located in the city. They grow the wine for their grapes on fences. Get a group of friends together and pop open a few bottles.

 

8. Covington

 

The city of Covington is just across the river from downtown Cincinnati. The quaint MainStrasse Village is full of charming Victorian buildings that are homes to lovely little shops and cafes. While in Covington, you should also head to the Goose Girl fountain and listen to the German Clock Tower. 

 

9. Mt. Adams

 

Mt. Adams is a small area east of the city that offers gorgeous views of both the downtown Cincinnati skyline and the surrounding Ohio River. You can either pack a lunch to eat while you enjoy the view, or you can visit one of the many restaurants or cafes in the downtown area.

 

10. Hyde Park

 

The Hyde Park neighborhood is known for its magnificent homes and the lush yards and gardens surrounding them. You can hours strolling through the area and marveling at the beautiful historical architecture.

 

11. Steam Boats

 

The image of a steam boat floating down a river is one of the most iconic American images one can see. In Cincinnati, you your family can spend the day floating down the Ohio River on a classic American steam boat.

 

12. Taft National Historic Site

 

Cincinnati was once home to former President William Howard Taft. The Taft Historic Site is now home to a museum, Taft’s birthplace, and even an art museum. It is an excellent learning opportunity for adults and children.

 

13. Eden Park

 

Eden Park, located near Mt. Adams is a lovely and scenic little area that is the perfect place to find a little bit of peace and serenity. A lovely stroll around the park with friend or by yourself is a great way to spend the day.

 

14. Freedom Center

 

The Freedom Center is a museum located downtown that documents Cincinnati’s important role in the Underground Railroad. The destination is an excellent way to learn about the history of Cincinnati.

 

15. Pyramid Hills Sculpture Garden and Museum

 

This beautiful and large park is lovely on its own. However, it’s the art found amidst its rolling hills that makes it really stand out. It is home to dozens of amazing sculptures and also houses a summer concert series every year.
