Everything You Need to Know as Maid of Honor
It’s quite an honor to be chosen as the Maid/Matron of Honor for a wedding. You’ve been the best friend/sister/cousin over the years and the bride-to-be has bestowed upon you one of the most important roles in adulthood. The distinction of being selected as maid of honor comes with its fair share of ups and downs, but in the end it will all be worth it.
Now that you’ve been selected as a maid of honor, you may find yourself at a loss for what the job actually entails. It can be a bit daunting, but it is a part you should play to the best of your abilities. You want to make sure the bride has the best bridal shower, bachelorette party, and ultimately, the dream wedding she has been thinking about since she was a kid.
We’re here to help you by putting together everything you need to know to ensure you don’t miss a single thing during the upcoming wedding planning process.
It’s All About the Dresses!
If you ask a bride what the most important thing to her is, it’s probably going to be the dress. And not just her dress, but her bridesmaids’ dresses as well. As the maid of honor, it will be your responsibility to help shop for both. You’ll need to go along with the bride as she tries on dresses and help her decide which one is perfect for her as well as the fitting appointments once she’s found “the dress”. You will also need to go along with the bridesmaids to find the perfect style and color to compliment the bride’s dress and the wedding’s décor. Once the wedding is over, it will also fall on your shoulders to take care of the dress once the wedding is over.
Keep the Bridesmaids on Track
As the maid of honor, you are also responsible for making sure the bridesmaids are on point with their duties. You’ll need to go with them to pick out shoes, find the right jewelry, and keep them in line on the big day. It’ll be up to you to keep track of them the day of the wedding and make sure they arrive to the ceremony venue on time to help get the bride dressed to walk down the aisle. As the maid of honor, you will also need to make sure they’re in the proper place and order to walk the aisle before the bride. The maid of honor will also need to keep the bridesmaids apprised of all upcoming showers and parties.
Plan the Bachelorette Party
This is honestly the best part of the job for the maid of honor. You get to put your knowledge of the bride to good use by putting together a bachelorette party she will remember for the rest of her life. This is her last night of freedom so you want to make sure she enjoys herself and feels like a true VIP throughout the night. Pick the venue, the food, and activities, and don’t forget transportation. There is sure to be a lot of cocktails enjoyed throughout the night, so plan ahead and reserve a limousine for the night. The chauffeur will take you to all the places you’ve chosen throughout the evening and will make sure all the ladies in attendance make it home safe and sound once the fun is over.
Above all, as the maid of honor, you are to be there for the bride from start to finish. Go along with her to cake tastings, dress fittings, and venue tours. Help her pick out a song list for her first dance with her husband-to-be as well as the father/daughter dance. Listen to her worries and cares, reminisce about days gone by, and give her a shoulder to cry on when she gets stressed out. No matter what, no matter how stressed out you get yourself, don’t forget that this esteemed position is one that you’ve deserved as her best friend and confidant over the years. Put your all into being the best maid of honor she could have ever hoped for.
