Japp’s Since 1879
Japp’s is a polished neighborhood bar that features classic cocktails of the 1700′s through the 1950′s, innovative new craft cocktails featuring fresh homemade ingredients, and a wide selection of bottled craft beers.
What you won’t find at Japp’s are televisions. The environment was designed to focus on the authentic Cincinnati cocktail experience. No ear-splitting Top 40 music, no jello shots. Just some of the world’s finest drinks at affordable prices in a relaxed setting.
Molly Wellmann heads Japp’s team of mixologists, who are not only experts at making delicious cocktails, but are well versed in their history and the history of the spirits that go into them. At Japp’s, you’ll find many unique liquors, as they emphasize small, craft distillers in their cocktails.
The architecture complements the over 100-year history of Japp’s as a Hair Store, the unique history of Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, and provides the ideal setting for you to enjoy drinks, as well as a conversation.

Cocktail Terrace at 21
This trendy rooftop bar — sorry…this trendy cocktail terrace, as the name states — is the perfect place for high rollers who enjoy creative, well-crafted cocktails and a great view of Downtown. You enter as though it’s a speakeasy … down an alley, through a door that is hardly marked, up an elevator that has only a martini-glass icon to identify your destination. Once you arrive, it is a lovely rooftop space.
Cocktail Terrace offers stunning views of downtown Cincinnati. The menu focuses on creative cocktails and also offers a small selection wine, beer, and bar snacks from chef Michael Paley.
There are 4 couch areas that have a retractable covered roof as well as some bar stools and tables at the far end. The couches are communal so you can network and mingle to your heart’s content.
We recommend you try any of their “Poptails”, which are drinks that combine popsicles and liquor. Each Poptail is made from scratch using fruit which is either blended or simmered down to a fine liquid. They are then transferred to trays and frozen for at least eight hours. Once ordered, each Poptail is then placed into a glass of chilled liquor. Vodka and limoncello for the lavender blueberry, tequila and triple sec for the avocado, and bourbon for the strawberry mint. They can be eaten solo or stirred into the spirits to create a cocktail.
We also recommend The Alfonso, which is made with Finlandia, mango cayenne vanilla shrub, byrrh.
Need some respite from all the action and drinks? You can get a 15-min. chair massage for $25.
Cocktail Terrace is open seasonally (and weather permitting) Tuesday – Saturday at 5pm.
The Rookwood
Housed in the former studio and manufacturing facility of the world-renown Rookwood Pottery Co., The Rookwood Bar & Restaurant opened its doors in 2008 and features a menu of freshly prepared food and craft beverages.
A source of pride for every Cincinnatian, this unique Mt. Adams location housed one of the greatest ceramics brands the world has seen.
Rookwood pottery was started in the late 1870s by Maria Longworth Nichols Storer as a way to market her hobby – the painting of blank china. Through years of experimentation with glazes and kiln temperatures, she eventually built her own kiln, hired a number of excellent chemists and artists who were able to develop premium color glazes that could be applied on a massive scale.
Rookwood sports a great patio area with an amazing view; cozy patio furniture and a fire pit.
