He was an American artist that emigrated to England early in his life and would become the personal painter of King George III. Ironically, his relationship to the king would survive the Revolutionary War but not the king’s fondness for Napoleon in 1802. Included in this incredibly historical exhibit are some other great American artists such as Rembrandt Peale and Samuel Morse. The Taft Museum has many entertaining, interesting, and culturally relevant exhibits such as this one throughout the year.
2. Orchids at Palm Court
The Orchids at Palm Court is one of many restaurants for the Cincinnati visitor to enjoy. The menu is updated seasonally, and there are is a large amount of unique dishes to choose from. Chef Todd Kelly was recently named the American Culinary Federation’s USA Chef of the Year and even has published his own cookbook. Pastry chef Megan Ketover has been featured on such programs as Bravos Top Chef: Just Desserts. With the credentials of these two chefs, one knows they are in for a world-class dining experience. The menu features such dishes as Crisp Squash Blossoms, containing White Anchovies, Mozzarella, Pancetta and Grits; Heirloom Tomato and Mozzarella “balloon”, a dish containing Saffron Tomato Water, Arugula, Lavosh, and Pickled Ramps; and Sweet Corn Soup, containing shrimp, crispy pork belly, and herb oil.
3. The Blue Wisp Jazz Club
Located in downtown Cincinnati, the Blue Wisp Jazz Club features local and national acts every night of the week. There is a happy hour where they offer two dollars off appetizers, and reservations are readily accepted. If you are a jazz aficionado, then this bar is the place to be for an enjoyable experience.
