Cliffside Brewing Company
Beer has a long history in Cincinnati. One of the most historical and storied breweries in the area is the Cliffside Brewing Company. The building is now empty, but was once one of the longest running brewing facilities in the Cincinnati area. It first opened in 1845 and was known as the Hamilton Brewery. The brewery operated under many different names for over 100 years, making it one of the longest running brewing facilities in the city. Production ceased in 1957 but the building remains standing and open for tours.
The Christian Morelein Brewery
They say bigger is better, and when it comes to beers that is certainly true. Cincinnati is home to one of the largest breweries in America, one the top five largest to be exact. The Christian Morelein Brewery was founded in 1853 and operated until the start of prohibition in 1920. Now, the Rhinegeist Brewery operates out of the huge brewery’s bottling room, so once you finish the tour you can have a few drinks to end the day.
Rivertown Brewery
There are many historic brewing companies in the Cincinnati Brewery District that can offer a glimpse into beer production in the past. However, you should also keep your eyes open for beer productions going on in your city right now. The craft-brewing craze has hit the nation by storm, and Cincinnati is definitely in on the party. For your first stop on the craft brewery tour of your city, stop off at Rivertown Brewing Company. A new favorite in Cincinnati, the Rivertown Brewery has gained popularity with their delicious Hop Baron Double IPA and Unit 6 American Hefeweizen. Their most popular brews are available in stores around the area, but taste best directly poured from the tap.
MadTree Brewery
Cans vs. bottles is a long running debate in the beer drinking community. If you’re a fan of cans, MadTree is the craft brewery for you. MadTree is known for being the first brewery in Cincinnati to can their brews instead of bottle them. Yet, no matter the vessel, the beer is what really sets them part. You can sample many of the excellent brews by taking a trip to the taproom. Usually, there’s a food truck near by as well so you can satisfy your appetite and wash your dinner down with a delicious pint.
With so many new and historical breweries in the Cincinnati area, there’s no reason for you and your buddies to settle on the same old bar and the same old brews.
