Enjoying Cincy Cinco to the Fullest
Cinco de Mayo is approaching, and Cincy Cinco is gearing up for its 10th anniversary. But what exactly is Cinco de Mayo, and what does Cincy Cinco entail? Here is a brief guide to everything you need to know to enjoy the day, from its origins to its celebration in Cincinnati to the reasons why Cincinnati car service is perfectly suited for traveling around Fountain Square, the site for the festivities.
A Brief History of Cinco de Mayo
Cinco de Mayo is a holiday many are familiar with, but how many people actually know its origins? Specifically, the day celebrates Mexico’s triumph over France in the 1862 Battle of Puebla, which was Mexico’s capital city at the time. Here’s a brief history: Mexico was in debt to France, which took over the country under Napoleon Bonaparte’s orders when Mexico stopped making its payments. During the long, sordid battle between the two countries, a bright shining moment was the armed fight that took place in Puebla. During this conflict, the smaller and ill-equipped Mexican army crushed its French adversaries. France did take over the country in time, but the victory on May 5 has been a much-celebrated event, especially in Puebla.
The Purpose of Cincy Cinco
Even though Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday, other cities in the United States make much ado about Cinco de Mayo, too. Cincinnati is no exception: Cincy Cinco was founded specifically to celebrate the values and culture of the Hispanic population in the city. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the event, and as usual, music, dancing, and food will all play important parts. Touted as a family event, Cincy Cinco will also have activities for the kids.
During festivals of past years, guests have been treated to dancers from Peru, Mexico, and the Carribbean, as well as the lively sounds of mariachi bands. Cincy Cinco also has made some notable record-setting efforts, including building the world’s largest piñata in 2006 and attempting to make the world’s largest taco in 2007. Who knows? Maybe it will set another world record this year to commemorate its 10th anniversary.
Profits from the festival will be donated to health care and educational charities supporting the Hispanic communities. These organizations include the Bienestar Program at Santa Maria Community Services, the trauma unit at Cincinnati Children Hospital’s Medical Center, and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund of Greater Cincinnati.
Location
Fountain Square is Cincinnati’s go-to place for large festivals of all kinds. And though parking isn’t as big an issue at the festival’s location as it may be in some downtown areas of other cities, it’s wise to consider taking a Cincinnati car service to Cincy Cinco. You’ll get the convenience of being picked up and dropped off at a location close to the festivities. You won’t have to worry about stop-and-go traffic. And if you go with a friend, a date, or your family, you can have some precious together time to chat and simply relax together (Plus, with car service, you don’t have any of the associated worries of parking a car in a garage, such as theft.) All in all, you’ll be much freer to celebrate and enjoy the day.
Cincy Cinco is always something special, and now that it’s reaching its 10-year mark, the upcoming celebration is bound to be memorable. Even though Cincinnati is 2,000 miles away from Puebla, you can still celebrate the holiday with as much vigor as Puebla residents. With car service to take you there, you can focus fully on the experience of soaking in the festival, and not on figuring out the best times to leave so that you beat the rush of traffic.
