Cincy Tennis Tournament Info 

On August 10-18, 2013, the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio will host the world’s best tennis players at the Western & Southern Open. It’s one of the most televised tennis events, with three U.S. broadcast partners: ESPN2, the Tennis Channel, and CBS. If you’re going to attend the event, this blog will share some important information about the Open.

Exclusive Event with Elite Players

Cincinnati is one of only five tennis events in the world, outside of the grand slams, where the best men and women play at the same venue during the same week. The Cincinnati tournament has had many different names since its beginning on September 18, 1899, including the Cincinnati Open, the Tri-State Tennis Championship, the Western Tennis Championship, the ATP Championship and Tennis Masters Series Cincinnati.

This year it is presented by Western and Southern Financial Group, hence the name.

In addition to professional tennis played by the best in the sport, the tournament features a week of special events and local cuisine on-site at the Tennis Center.

Hall of Fame First Timer

Martina Hingis, who was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame last month (July 2013), will make her Cincinnati debut this summer as a wild card entrant in the doubles field at the Western & Southern Open.

Hingis will be the 75th member of the Hall of Fame to participate in the Western & Southern Open main draw, but she will be the first player to do so after being enshrined. Overall, 103 members of the International Tennis Hall of Fame have participated in tennis events in Cincinnati.

When choosing dates to attend, consider the following advice from the W&S Open website:

“Every fan finds a different day to his or her liking. For both the men and women, there are more matches earlier in the week and during day sessions. As the week progresses, the excitement builds as the field narrows and the players fight to win the coveted title. “

Also, there are evening and afternoon sessions, and each requires a separate ticket to attend.

Watch Your Favorite Players Practice

Some courts at the Lindner Family Tennis Center were built specifically as practice courts. Watching practice has become a real fan favorite because you can get so close to the stars and see them in a relaxed environment. An electronic board near the player entrance, on the west side of the Lindner Family Tennis Center, updates you on who is practicing on which courts. In addition, you have option to view the player practice schedule during the event by opening cincytennis.com on your mobile devices.
